Internship in IoT Development at Blackbird ApS [Denmark]

Blackbird ApS is a spin-off from the consulting company emendo- which specialises in lean manufacturing consultancy. We monitor and collect data in real time from production lines, and enable organisations to immediately start downtime analysis, performance tracking, condition monitoring, OEE, receive alerts for predictive maintenance and much more in order to make continuous improvements in factories. We solve the problem of wasted resources and inadequate capacity utilization of existing production lines through data insight. We are trusted by some of the leading brands within Parma, Food, Beverage and Automotive to significantly improve and stay on top of their OEE. In a world of increased competitiveness, wasted resources and demand for sustainable production, Blackbird is the solution to ensure maximum output from a production line.

Who are we?

Here at Blackbird, we help production companies digitalize for them to improve productivity and efficiency. We do this by supplying them with plug and play IoT devices, capable of attaching sensors to measure their environment. These connect with our AWS based cloud backend, where the customers can view and analyze their data through our web- and phone-application.

Blackbird is a scale-up and we are rapidly expanding. We have around 40 employees, and most of us have been here for about a year or two. This means that you get to be part of a young and active workplace, with the ability to add your own touch to the company culture. The hardware team that you will be working with consists of 10 people, 2 of which were recently hired after finishing their own projects here.

Project Description

In production optimization, analyzing the reason for downtime is crucial. To gain an overview of what creates downtime on a production line, Blackbird’s system allows operators to register when the production line stops, and why it stopped. Blackbird’s system currently allows production line operators to register these stops. This is currently done by normal touch and mouse/keyboard interactions. To help save the operators’ time on the production floor, Blackbird is looking into optimizing this workflow by letting operators register production stops by a simple tap from a smart watch on an NFC sticker.

The project that we have in mind for you is to develop a smart watch application, capable of scanning NFC stickers, interpreting these as stop causes, and sending these stop causes to the Blackbird system via our API. To make the experience hands-free, the intention is to add several NFC stickers at the production line with the most common stop causes, and have the user simply scan these using the smart watch.

The tech stack you can expect to work with looks something like this: - A native Kotlin / java WearOS android application for the smart watch. - Integrating with a GraphQL API - The AWS cloud backend.

The project brings several challenges where the solution is not set in stone. As such you will be working in collaboration with our Product Designer to solve these challenges and create the smoothest user experience possible.

Who are you?

The perfect applicant for us has experience with some, or all, parts of the tech stack, a good problem-solving mindset, and a desire for creating user-friendly products that have an impact in the real world.

If that sounds like you, then don’t hesitate to apply!

We look forward to hearing from you.
